Name: Mohammed Jamail |
What gets you out of bed in the morning?
Having the opportunity to influence other people's operations is both a rewarding and challenging opportunity, which I find very exciting!
Briefly, what does your typical day involve?
Checking overnight emails, answering urgent customer requests, liaising with my clients (when I get a chance) and working on short-term projects such as evaluating a new catalyst for use in our refineries, evaluating the risks (and benefits) of a new mode of operation, site safety reviews, turnaround support etc...
What is the most interesting thing you have done today?
Answered a client query, detailing the risks for processing an external import stream into their unit. This was greatly appreciated and has triggered further discussions on the whole subject.
What is the most unusual thing you have done as part of your job?
I have had to train operators who have been operating a plant for more than 30 years. This is unusual because their experience is longer than I have lived! Nevertheless it was a fun experience and think we all learnt something too.
What is the most unlikely place your job has taken you?
Balikpapan, Indonesia
What has been the most rewarding moment in your career?
Two items to mention here: 1) Getting Chartered status through IChemE and 2) Securing an international posting to Malaysia.
What is the one personal ambition you still want to achieve?
I would like to manage my own team.
When you are not at work what is your greatest pleasure?
Travelling, especially to new places.
What would the casual observer not guess about you?
I am fairly regimented when it comes to work practices.
What is your favourite holiday destination?
Indonesia (at present)
