What is your main role?
Research, Consulting, Administrator & Strategic Leader, Supervision of staff and students.
What part of your job gets you out of bed in the morning?
The desire to excel in what I do and finishing whatever I was working on before going to bed!…
Briefly, what does your typical day involve?
Meetings with various groups on issues arising; Lectures and/ or presentations; Meeting with research students and postdocs on project status; Time out to think and brainstorm on my research. Resolving “challenges” for staff and students, etc.
What is the most interesting thing you have done today?
Discussing project scopes from two new industrial clients with two colleagues and working out strategies on how to secure the two projects.
What is the most unusual thing you have done as part of your job?
I flew into Hong Kong at midnight, then stayed up all night to watch the Soccer World Cup Final, snoozed for 2 hours, then hopped on the train to South China for 2 hours, and then spent the rest of the day at meetings on research collaborations, and gave seminars, etc!
What is the most unlikely place your job has taken you?
Gramaldo in Brazil and Cancύn in Mexico.
What has been the most rewarding moment in your career?
Seeing struggling students graduate and be successful chemical engineers! Feeling that I successfully contributed as an academic to educate the next generation of chemical engineers.
When you are not at work what is your greatest pleasure?
Walking, sight seeing and discovering new places!
What would the casual observer not guess about you?
That, I am a Professor in Chemical Engineering!
What is your favourite holiday destination?
So far - China.
