What gets you out of bed in the morning?

The challenge of developing a new case strategy for every dispute.

Briefly, what does your typical day involve?

I might be reading into a new case, researching a point of law, meeting with a client to advise on the merits, or discussing a complex technical issue.

What is the most interesting thing you have done today?

Read the judgment in a fiercely contested case, upon which more than £10 million hangs.

What is the most unusual thing you have done as part of your job?

Discussing with a client the likelihood of the meeting rooms at an arbitration venue being bugged!

What is the most unlikely place your job has taken you?

A site in a remote part of the Rub al Khali desert (or “Empty Quarter”) of Saudi Arabia.

What has been the most rewarding moment in your career?

Successfully defending a small family owned building contractor from claims that would have resulted in certain insolvency.

What is the one personal ambition you still want to achieve?

Work shorter hours!

When you are not at work what is your greatest pleasure?

Simple things...good company and a glass of red wine.

What would the casual observer not guess about you?

That I’m a lawyer.

What is your favourite holiday destination?

A ski resort.
