Job Title: Process Area 1 Manager, Tate and Lyle

What is your main role?

To manage a team running the plant, fault finding and optimising the plant.

What part of your job gets you out of bed in the morning?

The feeling that I can make a difference.

Briefly, what does your typical day involve?

Reading 24hr reports before attending a 7am meeting, acting on the priority jobs and reporting to the 8.30am operations meeting. The day will then comprise of work on the plant solving issues that have come up overnight, meeting with other engineers about short and long term projects, HR tasks, my own projects and then a closing report for the night team about what has happened that day and what needs to be done overnight.

What is the most interesting thing you have done today?

Went to see our carbon supplier's plant to see how it is regenerated and discuss ongoing work between us.

What is the most unusual thing you have done as part of your job?

Whilst on assignment in Mexico I had to learn how to communicate with Spanish speaking engineers having never spoken Spanish in my life. The combination of drawings, hand gestures and the odd word made for novel communication!

What is the most unlikely place your job has taken you?

To a remote Mexican town on a sugar refinery upgrade project for 8 months.

What has been the most rewarding moment in your career?

Being promoted to Process Area 1 Manager.

What is the one personal ambition you still want to achieve?

There are way too many personal and professional ones to list, although I really want to go cage diving with great white sharks in the near future.

What is your favourite holiday destination?

Anywhere really hot, I loved Australia when I was there travelling.

What would the casual observer not guess about you?

That I managed to run the Bristol half marathon
