Industrial placements
There are opportunities to gain industrial experience during your university course and many universities offer sandwich courses in which students spend up to a year in industry and gain experience of commercial life in a firm.
Industrial experience is generally of two types:
- Vacation placements - These are generally 6-12 weeks in length and usually involve working on small projects.
- Extended placements - These vary in length from 6 months to a year and can offer the opportunity to work on a more extensive project in industry.
These placements can be found by contacting industry directly with a covering letter and CV.
Many university departments will offer you assistance in securing an industrial placement. Contact the Admissions Tutor to find out more.
Industrial placement opportunities are not restricted to the UK and may involve an industrial placement in Europe or the US for example.
